Emo fashion is all about expressing individuality and the deep emotions related to hardcore, alternative rock music that define this style era. So creating your own emo look can be challenging. The totality of the look requires a blend of elements from preexisting fashion genres, such as punk, geek and goth. Melding matte, black hair with dark makeup and clothes is a good way to imitate an emo look. But for girls who want to achieve a more authentic emo style, there are a few style basics to consider.

Hair
The first thing that most people notice when evaluating an emo look is your hair. Emo hair should be cut short and choppy in the back with long layers in the front, almost resembling a reverse mullet. Clothes
Emo is sort of the youngest child of outcast fashion with hand-me-downs from punk, geek and goth styles. Girls can accessorize with geek-inspired square, black eyeglasses. Hoodies worn with patches and pins pay homage to the punk style era. You can punch up the emo effect with a hoodie that adorns an image of your favorite indie band.
